Pour un grand nombre de passionn\u00e9s de moyen-\u00e2ge et de mati\u00e8re arthurienne, <strong><em>Excalibur<\/em><\/strong> entra directement au panth\u00e9on des longs-m\u00e9trages de r\u00e9f\u00e9rence sur ces sujets. Aujourd&rsquo;hui encore,\u00a0il fait figure de film embl\u00e9matique pour qui s&rsquo;int\u00e9resse au cin\u00e9ma du d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 80.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong><em>\u00ab\u00a0Forged by a god. Foretold by a wizard. Found by a king.\u00a0\u00bb<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u00ab\u00a0Forg\u00e9e par un Dieu, pr\u00e9dit par un Magicien, trouv\u00e9e par un roi\u00a0\u00bb<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #808080;\">(slogan pr\u00e9sent sur l&rsquo;affiche d&rsquo;Excalibur)<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Avec, Excalibur, le r\u00e9alisateur anglais allait marquer les esprits et m\u00eame, \u00e0 sa mani\u00e8re, relancer l&rsquo;int\u00e9r\u00eat d&rsquo;une partie du grand public pour les l\u00e9gendes arthuriennes.\u00a0Si cette production anglo-am\u00e9ricaine suscita, peut-\u00eatre, des vocations d&rsquo;historiens ou de futurs m\u00e9di\u00e9vistes, elle lan\u00e7a assur\u00e9ment la carri\u00e8re de certains acteurs dont le moindre n&rsquo;est pas <strong>Liam Neeson<\/strong>. Il y incarnait le r\u00f4le de Gauvain, aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s d&rsquo;autres jeunes premiers qui devinrent, plus tard, eux aussi, des pointures du cin\u00e9ma am\u00e9ricain.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">De son c\u00f4t\u00e9, <strong>Nicol Williamson\u00a0<\/strong>(1936-2011), dans le r\u00f4le de Merlin l&rsquo;enchanteur, n&rsquo;en \u00e9tait d\u00e9j\u00e0 plus \u00e0 ses premiers pas, au moment du tournage. Grand acteur britannique de formation classique, \u00e0 la longue carri\u00e8re cin\u00e9matographique, il s&rsquo;\u00e9tait aussi illustr\u00e9 sur les planches, d\u00e8s ses d\u00e9buts, dans de nombreux r\u00f4les shakespeariens.
